The initial impact from an accident isn't always the most dangerous part. It's the secondary
injury, your body's own reaction, that can be devastating. After a head injury,
your brain can swell, increasing pressure inside your skull. This cuts off blood flow and oxygen,
causing more damage than the first hit. It’s why someone can have a "lucid interval" after
a head knock, seem perfectly fine, and then suddenly deteriorate. It happens with
spinal cord injuries too. A simple trigger like a full bladder can cause a life-threatening
blood pressure spike. Your body's response to trauma can be a silent killer.
