You're basically in a controlled fall every time you walk. It starts the moment
your heel hits the ground, and your body rapidly transfers its entire weight onto that
leg. Then you enter single-limb support, where you balance and glide your body
over that one stable foot. The coolest part is when your body moves ahead of your
foot, your heel lifts, and you literally start a "free forward fall."
Just before you face-plant, your other leg swings through to catch you,
pushing off with your back toes to start the whole cycle over again. It’s a perfect rhythm
of falling and catching.
