Your DNA is essentially a library where ninety-nine percent of the books are glued shut.
This is the only reason your eye cells don't accidentally start producing stomach acid.
It all comes down to a process called transcription. The main worker, RNA Polymerase,
is actually totally blind on its own. It needs a massive squad of proteins called transcription
factors to physically hunt down a start line, often called the TATA box.
They literally have to bend your DNA and kick out protective barriers just to read a single gene.
It is a chaotic, microscopic dance that keeps you alive.
