The Dark Conveyor Route

The shaking stopped. Everything went quiet. Too quiet. Then I heard it…

something rolling. Slow. Careful. I looked out from under the shelf.

Another potato was there. Smaller. Dirt still on her. She looked just

as scared as I felt. The machines roared back to life. She rolled closer and whispered,

“They’re changing the route.” A shadow passed over us. A new conveyor dropped

down into somewhere darker. She said, “If we go that way… no one comes back.”
