Heterosexuals destroyed traditional marriage, not gay people. For thousands of years,
marriage was a business deal. It was about consolidating wealth, making political
alliances, and getting useful in-laws. Marrying for love was seen as a terrible
reason to get hitched. Then, about 200 years ago, a revolutionary
idea took over: marrying for love. This new focus on intimacy and personal happiness is what
we now call "traditional," but it was a radical break from the past. Here’s the twist: this love revolution
is what made marriage so fragile. Once love became the reason to marry, its absence became
a reason to divorce.
