The Power of Obedience and Conformity

Your brain is wired to obey, even when it means hurting someone. In a famous experiment,

people were told by a scientist to give electric shocks to a stranger. Most of them did

it, even when they heard screams of pain. It’s called obedience to authority.

It’s the same reason you might agree with your friends even when you know they’re wrong—that’s

conformity. Our minds hate the discomfort of going against the group, so we change our

behavior to fit in. It proves that situations and social pressure can control us more

than we think.
