The Unlikely Comedy Legend

On a school trip to Quebec, our tour guide was this smarmy guy who kept flirting

with the female teachers and trying to convince them to skip all the educational stops

they’d planned. Near the end of the trip we visited a shop that sold fresh bread with

maple butter, and the walls were covered in photos of celebrities who’d been there.

The guide puffed himself up and said, “My picture’s up there too. You’ll know it—it’s

the one with all the lipstick on it.” And out of nowhere, shy,

awkward, quiet little me blurted out, “I didn’t know you wore makeup,

sir!” The bus went dead silent…and then every ninth-grader exploded into laughter.
