the British Governor Frederick Hodgson walked into Ashanti territory in Ghana and made the worst
demand in colonial history. He wanted to sit on the Golden Stool. Not just any stool.
The Golden Stool was the soul of the Ashanti people. It represented their unity,
their ancestors, their entire existence. It was never sat on. Not even by kings.
It floated above them on a sacred platform. Hodgson did not care.
