Car companies have a formula to calculate exactly how dangerous a failure in your car could be.
It's a mandatory safety process where engineers brainstorm every possible malfunction, like your brakes
failing or steering locking up. They rate each potential disaster on three things.
First, Severity: how bad the injuries would be. Second,
Exposure: how often you're in that specific driving situation. And finally, Controllability:
can an average driver actually handle the failure and avoid a crash? These scores combine
to create a final risk level. That level dictates how over-engineered the safety systems
must be to prevent that specific nightmare from happening.
