How Much Does a Music Video Cost in 2026? Real Numbers

Sourced 2026 music video budgets, from a $0 phone shoot to $250,000 label videos, the line items behind them, and what 26 real AI music videos made with Revid cost in credits, charted by tier and song length.

On this page

A music video costs anywhere from almost nothing to more than $1 million in 2026: a self-shot phone video costs $0 to a few hundred dollars, most independent productions cost $1,500 to $10,000, and label videos typically run $30,000 to $250,000. An AI music video of a 3-minute song costs 540 to 3,600 credits on Revid, about $10.50 to $70 of Growth plan credits, depending on the quality tier.

To test that math on real videos, we priced 26 public music videos made with Revid in its free credit calculator, using the settings on each video's public page. The median came to about 826 credits for a median song of 3:17, and the four most watched were all made on the cheapest tier.

Below: sourced budgets by tier, the line items behind them, the credit cost by song length, the 26 examples, and when AI is enough.

On a normal axis, everything below a label video looks like zero, so here is the same ladder on a log scale, where each step is ten times the one before.

For an independent rapper, The Source puts a realistic target at around $3,000. Its case study is useful because it shows how budgets slip: the artist planned $3,000 and needed another $2,000 before the video was finished.

What makes a music video expensive?

Four things set the price: how many people you pay, for how many days, in how many places, and how much work happens after the shoot. The line items below come from two production guides and the Los Angeles permit office.

Permits are easy to leave out of a first budget, and they rarely come alone. The same Los Angeles fee list bills police officers at $74 an hour and fire safety officers at $126 an hour when a shoot needs them.

Most of those lines exist because something has to be filmed: people, gear, a place and a permit. An AI music video skips most of them, which is where the price gap comes from.

Diagram pairing each filmed music video budget line (crew, gear, locations and permits, people on screen, edit, contingency) with what an AI music video on Revid uses instead

The usual way to keep a shoot cheap: one location, one day, a performance concept, and a shot list planned before anyone is paid. Revid's free music video shot planner turns your song's length and BPM into a timed shot list, and the free BPM finder reads the tempo from the file.

How much does it cost to do a music video yourself?

Doing it yourself costs your time plus whatever you can't borrow. A recent phone on a tripod, daylight or one LED panel, and a free editor are enough to shoot a clean performance video. What still costs money:

  • A location, if you can't use a free public space or a friend's place ($200 to $1,000 a day as a rental, per The Source).
  • Props and wardrobe, often a few hundred dollars at most.
  • Food and transport for friends who help for free.
  • Optional help: a beginner videographer at around $400 for a 3 to 4 hour shoot, or an editor if you don't cut it yourself.

Our step-by-step guide to making a YouTube music video covers the shoot, the edit and the upload settings.

How much does an AI music video cost?

An AI music video replaces the crew, the locations and the shoot days with generated scenes, so the price depends on the length of the song and the quality tier. On Revid, AI video is billed per second of video, pro rata with no minimum: 15 credits per 5 seconds on Low, 50 on Pro and 100 on Ultra (720p). The cost is shown before you generate.

The price grows in a straight line with the song: 3, 10 or 20 credits per second. On the Growth plan ($39 for 2,000 credits a month), a 3-minute song is about $10.50 on Low, $35 on Pro and $70 on Ultra.

Dollar values use the Growth plan: $39 a month for 2,000 credits, about $0.0195 per credit. A few things to know before you budget:

  • A 3-minute Ultra video needs more than one Growth month. 3,600 credits is more than the 2,000 in the plan. The Ultra plan ($199 a month for 12,000 credits) brings that song to about $60 of credits, and credit packs start at 1,000 credits for $49.
  • Animated AI images usually cost less than AI video. They are billed per image rather than per second: the calculator prices a 3-minute song at 45, 180 or 720 credits depending on the image model (Low, Pro or Ultra), so the Low and Pro image models suit drafts and long songs.
  • Test a cut first. A 30-second chorus costs a sixth of the full song and tells you whether the style works.
  • Cheap can still perform. "Er passero ferito", a claymation folk song made on the Low tier, reached 502,816 TikTok views. At today's rates its 3:21 runtime costs 603 credits on Low.

One Growth subscriber wrote on Trustpilot in June 2026 that the plan's 2,000 credits generally cover two, sometimes three, full-length music videos of 3 to 5 minutes.

Revid is not the cheapest AI option to start. In our comparison of 11 AI music video generators (checked September 30, 2026), entry prices ran from free (CapCut) and about $10 a month (Kaiber, Adobe Firefly) to $39 a month (Neural Frames and Revid). What Revid adds for the price is the full chain in one place: full-song generation, lyric or beat timing, an editor, and publishing to TikTok, YouTube and Instagram.

What real music videos made with Revid cost

We checked the rates against real videos. We took the 30 public examples on our AI music video maker page, read each one's settings from its public page (tier, style, lip sync, captions, format, part of the song used) and ran them through Revid's free credit calculator. Four were left out: two use a style named after a film studio, one page no longer loads and one links to another project. That leaves 26, all made with AI video scenes.

Only two settings moved the price: how much of the song the video covers and the tier. Every Low video came to 180 credits per minute, every Pro video to 600 and every Ultra video to 1,200. In the calculator, style, singer lip sync, captions, characters and format did not change the estimate. Here are nine of them across the three tiers.

Across all 26, Low videos ranged from 111 to 885 credits (14 videos), Pro from 850 to 2,640 (7) and Ultra from 1,400 to 8,140 (5). The most expensive, a 6:47 synthwave video on Ultra, comes to about $159 of Growth plan credits, less than the $400 a beginner videographer charges for a 3 to 4 hour shoot.

In this sample, spending more did not buy reach. Twelve of the 26 examples have tracked views, and 9 of those 12 were made on Low, including the four most watched: a 37-second Hindi dark pop track at 111 credits had 844,806 YouTube views, and "Er passero ferito" at 603 credits had 502,816 TikTok views.

Which tier and visuals do creators pick on Revid?

Most creators keep music videos cheap. In the last 90 days, 59.1% of the 54,940 generations in Revid's music video generator used animated AI images, the visuals billed per image. Of the 16,960 made with AI video, 74.3% used Low, 21.4% Pro and 4.2% Ultra.

Two more choices show how people use the tool. 90.6% of these generations were timed to the lyrics rather than the beats, and where the setting was recorded, 55% of the lyric-timed AI video ones kept singer lip sync on (4,800 of 8,708). Over the 12 months to September 2026, 184,384 people ran 430,791 music video generations on Revid.

What this means for your budget: start on Low or with animated images, check the style on a 30-second cut, and keep Pro or Ultra for the song you plan to push.

When is an AI music video enough, and when isn't it?

AI is usually enough when:

  • The song needs a visual world more than a performance: animation, fantasy, a story you could never afford to film.
  • You release often and want a video for every single, plus vertical cuts for TikTok, Reels and Shorts.
  • You want to try three looks for the price of one shoot day, then keep the best.
  • The budget is zero, or close to it.

Film it when:

  • Fans need to see you perform. A generated character can sing your lyrics, but it is not you on stage.
  • The concept depends on a real place, real people from your community, or choreography.
  • A brand, a sync deal or a broadcaster asks for live footage.
  • You want photorealistic people. On YouTube, realistic AI scenes and real people made to appear doing something they didn't do must be disclosed as AI, and realistic faces and hands need more care than stylized looks such as claymation or 3D animation.

One practical split: a filmed video for the lead single, AI videos for the rest of the record. If you already have photos from a shoot, our tutorial on making a music video from photos shows how to use them.

How to make a music video with Revid, step by step

  1. Add the song. Open the AI music video generator and upload an MP3 or WAV, or paste a Suno link.
  2. Trim it if you want. Use only part of the track, such as the chorus for a vertical teaser.
  3. Choose the timing. "Sync to lyrics" changes scenes on the lines and shows word-by-word captions; "sync to beats" times the cuts to the rhythm, with no lyrics.
  4. Pick the visuals. AI video clips, animated AI images, stock footage or your own media, then a style (claymation, 3D render, anime, ultra realism and more) and a short visual direction. Turn on singer lip sync if you want a character to sing your lines (AI video with lyric timing only).
  5. Choose the tier and read the price. Low, Pro or Ultra; the credit cost appears before you generate.
  6. Edit and export. Fix any scene in the timeline editor, then export in 720p, 1080p or 4K. You own 100% of what you create.

Want to see what each tier looks like first? The 30 example videos on our AI music video maker page list the style and tier of each one, and the step-by-step music video tutorial breaks down four of them with their exact settings.

How we got these numbers

  • Filmed budgets: published ranges from the trade press and production guides listed in the sources. They are typical ranges, not quotes.
  • AI cost by song length: 18 requests to Revid's free credit calculator on October 23, 2026: AI video scenes timed to lyrics, 30 seconds to 5 minutes, on each tier.
  • Real examples: the 30 public examples on our music video maker page, priced in the same calculator with the settings on each video's public page (26 usable). These are today's rates; what a creator paid at the time can differ. Views are YouTube or TikTok counts tracked by Revid as of September 30, 2026.
  • Creator choices: Revid's product analytics (Amplitude), 54,940 generations in the AI music video generator from July 25 to October 23, 2026. Dollar figures use the Growth plan rate of $0.0195 per credit; other plans and credit packs differ.

FAQ

How much does a cheap music video cost?

A self-shot video can cost nothing beyond your time and a location. Hiring a beginner videographer with their own gear costs around $400 for a 3 to 4 hour shoot, according to The Source (2026). An AI music video of a 3-minute song on Revid's Low tier costs about 540 credits, roughly $10.50 of Growth plan credits.

How much do music video directors charge?

Ranges vary with experience: The Source (2026) puts directors on indie videos at $300 to $1,500, and eMastered's 2022 breakdown lists $500 to $4,000 per day. Directors on label videos work inside budgets that Billboard puts at $30,000 to $250,000.

How much does an AI music video cost per minute?

On Revid, one minute of AI video costs 180 credits on Low, 600 on Pro and 1,200 on Ultra (720p). On the Growth plan that is about $3.50, $11.70 or $23.40. When we priced 26 real music videos made with Revid, every one matched these per-minute rates for its tier.

Which quality tier do most people use for AI music videos?

Low. In Revid's product analytics for July 25 to October 23, 2026, 74.3% of the 16,960 music videos made with AI video used the Low tier, 21.4% Pro and 4.2% Ultra. More than half of all 54,940 music video generations (59.1%) used animated AI images instead, which the calculator prices at 45 to 720 credits for a 3-minute song, depending on the image model.

Can I make a music video for free?

You can start without paying. Sign-up on Revid is free with no credit card, and new accounts get free credits to try video generation. The free MP3 to MP4 converter needs no account at all: it turns your song and cover art into a video with an animated waveform or bars, in your browser, with no watermark. Our guide on how to animate an album cover covers that and Spotify Canvas.

Do I own an AI music video I make with Revid?

Yes. You own 100% of what you create with Revid. You still need the rights to the song itself, which is simple when it is your own track.

AI Video Tools vs Professional Editors: When Each Wins in 2026

AI video tools handle high-volume short-form editing for a fraction of an editor's cost, while professional editors still win on brand films and long stories. Here is the math and a checklist to split the work.
