How Revid computed these numbers
- Revid indexes public TikToks with at least 1,000 likes (2.39 million on October 2026) and has each one analyzed by AI for who is on screen, how it is shot, its content type, its production format and whether it promotes a brand.
- Medians are estimated from how many videos pass fixed view thresholds (1k, 10k, 50k, 100k, 250k, 500k, 1M and up), interpolated on a log scale. They describe this index of already-popular TikToks, not every TikTok ever posted.
- Brand promotion was added to the analysis in 2025, so branded-content numbers compare analyzed posts only. Production formats are classified on a smaller subset of recent posts; the sample size is given with each number.
- All numbers come from read-only aggregate queries; no individual creator is identified.
- Data pulled October 3, 2026.

Popular short-form video stats we could not verify
These numbers appear on many statistics roundups. We could not trace them to a primary source, or the source says something different. Quote them with care.
“Short-form videos get 2.5x more engagement than long-form videos ("engagement rates up to 250% higher").”
No primary study found. Yaguara credits Sprout Social, but Sprout's own social media video statistics page (updated March 2026) has no such figure. ShortsIntel credits Vidico (an agency blog), and Wyzowl's blog credits Yaguara, so the citations loop between blogs. No sample, platform or definition of 'engagement' is published anywhere we looked.

“73% of consumers prefer to watch a short video to learn about a product or service.”
Outdated. The 73% comes from Wyzowl's 2022 Video Marketing Statistics ('73% said they’d prefer to watch a short video'). Wyzowl's answer to the same question was 69% in 2021, 44% in 2024, 78% in 2025 and 63% in the current 2026 report (266 respondents), so quoting 73% as a 2026 figure is wrong.

“The global short-form video market is worth $59.09 billion in 2026 and will reach $640.9 billion by 2035 (30.33% CAGR).”
Credited to Business Research Insights, a paid market-sizing report. Its page blocked automated access and the methodology is not public, so we could not verify it. It is a model forecast for a loosely defined 'market', not measured revenue or ad spend, and it does not match any platform disclosure.

“85% of marketers say short-form video is the most effective format on social media.”
No primary survey found. Yaguara cites a Neal Schaffer blog post that no longer contains the figure, and Wyzowl's own blog attributes it to Techjury, another aggregator. It is not in Wyzowl's 2026 survey results or HubSpot's 2026 State of Marketing data. HubSpot's comparable 2026 number is 49% of marketers citing short-form video as a top ROI format.

“90% of Gen Z and Millennials watch short-form videos daily (also circulates, unsourced, as 'over 90% of Gen Z and Millennial users watch short-form videos').”
Traceable but often misquoted. The source is NuVoodoo's Q1 2025 study of 2,900+ U.S. consumers: 92% of Gen Z and 90% of Millennials watch short-form video 'frequently' or 'sometimes'. The 'daily' version on Clouted's page is wrong, since only 40% of Gen Z and 46% of Millennials said 'frequently'. Zelios credits Marketing LTB, which gives no source. The correctly worded figure is in our verified list.

“TikTok holds a 40% share of the short-form video market, with YouTube Shorts and Instagram Reels at 20% each.”
No measurement source found. Wyzowl's blog credits SendShort, a tool vendor's blog, and none of the pages define the metric (users, time, views or revenue). Independent usage data contradicts a neat 40/20/20 split: for example, Sensor Tower's late-2024 U.S. hours data put YouTube Shorts well ahead of Instagram Reels.

“Videos under 90 seconds retain about 50% of viewers on average.”
No primary dataset found. Wyzowl's blog credits Persuasion Nation and ShortsIntel credits Marketing LTB, both blogs. Wistia's 2026 State of Video says only that shorter videos have higher engagement rates, with no 90-second or 50% figure. The closest original data is Vidyard's 2024 benchmark: 65% of viewers finish business videos under one minute.
Seen on: zelios.agency, marketingltb.com, clouted.com
“71% of viewers decide within the first few seconds whether a video is worth watching.”
Distorted. The earliest version we found is a December 2023 post by research agency Asia Research (cited by Animoto): '71% of TikTok users stop and watch the first three seconds of the video', from a study of sponsored TikTok content. It is about TikTok ads, and it does not say viewers 'decide' anything.

“Short-form video accounts for over 80% of mobile data or internet traffic (Cisco); video will be 82% of internet traffic.”
Misattributed and outdated. Cisco's Visual Networking Index release of November 2018 forecast that video of all kinds would make up 82% of IP traffic by 2022. It was a 2018 forecast for 2022 and says nothing about short-form video. We found no Cisco source for 'short-form video is 80% of mobile data'.

“Ad spending on short-form videos will reach $1.04 trillion in 2026.”
Implausible for short-form alone. $1.04 trillion is on the scale of the entire global advertising market: Statista's current forecast for total worldwide ad spending across all formats is US$1.25tn in 2026. The page's companion figure ($460.5 billion for the U.S.) also matches total U.S. ad spending scale. We found no forecast of $1.04 trillion for short-form video.

“Short-form video ad spending will reach $111.01 billion in 2025 (9.14% growth) or $145.8 billion by 2028.”
Could not verify. Statista Market Insights does publish an 'ad spending on short-form videos' line inside its digital video advertising forecast, but the numbers are paywalled (masked on the public page). Clouted credits a site called The Global Statistics, not Statista. These are model estimates that Statista revises over time.

“Instagram Reels has 1.8 billion+ users and 200 billion+ daily plays (presented as current).”
Outdated. Meta said Reels plays exceeded 200 billion per day across Facebook and Instagram combined on its July 2023 earnings call. We found no newer plays figure in the Meta earnings call transcripts we checked (Q4 2024 and Q2 2025 through Q2 2026), and no Meta source for '1.8 billion Reels users'.

“More than 50% of all Instagram ads ran on Reels in 2025, up from 35% in 2024 (Sensor Tower).”
Could not verify at the source. The figure comes from Sensor Tower data shared with CNBC for a January 2026 article; we did not find it in Sensor Tower's own published blog posts or reports, so we left it out of the verified list.

“Videos under 60 seconds hold about 52% average engagement and 70%+ completion (Wistia 2026 State of Video, 13M+ videos).”
Not in the source. Wistia's 2026 State of Video Report (900+ professionals, 13 million+ videos) states that shorter videos have higher engagement rates, but its published text contains no 52% or 70% figure for videos under 60 seconds.

How this page is made
Every external statistic is traced to the organization that produced it: its report, official blog, earnings call or press release. The number was confirmed on that page on October 3, 2026, and the date in brackets is when the source was published. Older numbers stay only when they are still widely quoted, and the sentence says the year.
Revid's own numbers are computed from aggregate queries on its index; the method is right under them. The whole page is re-checked every quarter.

Questions
What are the most important short-form video statistics in 2026?
YouTube Shorts average over 200 billion daily views, Alphabet CEO Sundar Pichai said on the company's Q2 2025 earnings call (July 2025). In Revid's index of 2.39 million TikToks with 1,000+ likes, videos of 16 to 30 seconds had the highest median views (about 141,000), ahead of videos under 15 seconds (106,000) and 31 to 60 seconds (120,000). Short-form video was the top ROI-driving content format in HubSpot's 2026 State of Marketing Report, cited by 49% of marketers, ahead of long-form video (29%) and live-streaming video (25%). The page lists 97 short-form video statistics, each with its original source and date, checked on October 3, 2026.
What is the best length for a short-form video?
In Revid's index of 2.39 million TikToks with 1,000+ likes, videos of 16 to 30 seconds had the highest median views (about 141,000), ahead of videos under 15 seconds (106,000) and 31 to 60 seconds (120,000). Longer videos are becoming more common, but in this data the extra length does not buy more views on average.
How were these statistics checked?
Each external statistic was traced to the organization that produced it (its report, official blog, earnings call or press release), and the number was confirmed on that page on October 3, 2026. Numbers we could only find on other stats roundups are listed separately as unverified. The 10 Revid statistics come from aggregate queries on Revid's own index of TikToks with 1,000+ likes.
How often is this page updated?
Every quarter: sources are re-checked, newer reports replace older ones, and Revid's own numbers are recomputed from the latest index. The date at the top of the page is the last full check.
