Revid vs Descript

Descript is where you edit what you recorded, by editing the transcript. Revid is where you make the video when nothing was recorded.

We link to Descript's own pages and public review scores so you can verify everything yourself. Last updated .

Descript changed how people edit spoken content: you cut a podcast or video by deleting words in the transcript. Around that it has built recording, Studio Sound, filler-word removal, clip creation, translation and Underlord, an AI co-editor that makes edits from a prompt. For podcasters, interview shows, screen recordings and team video, it is a strong editor and cheaper than Revid (from $24/month, or $16 billed annually, per descript.com/pricing).

Revid does not try to be that editor. It generates short-form videos from an idea, script, article or song, with AI visuals, voice-over, captions and music, and posts them. If you have recordings to repurpose, Descript is the better pick. If you need videos that were never filmed, that is Revid's job. We also report Descript's Trustpilot score below (2.7/5 in September 2026) with its link, because we are a competitor and you should check it yourself.

Editing what you said vs generating what you did not film

Descript's core idea is that a recording is a document. Delete a sentence in the transcript and the video cut follows. For anyone whose content is people talking (podcasts, interviews, tutorials, webinars), that removes most of the pain of editing, and Create Clips turns the long version into short ones. Revid has nothing that matches this for recorded speech, and its YouTube clip maker only covers basic highlights.

Revid's core idea is that the recording does not need to exist. You describe the video, or paste an article or a song, and the scenes are generated, voiced, captioned and scored, then posted or scheduled. For faceless channels, story formats, product ads and music videos, there is nothing to transcribe in the first place.

Two meters and a mixed review record

Descript plans carry two allowances: media hours for what you upload or record, and AI credits for features like Underlord, Studio Sound and generated media. Hobbyist has 10 hours and 400 credits a month; the free plan has 60 minutes and 100 one-time credits. If you lean on the AI features, the credits are the limit to watch.

That is also a theme on Descript's Trustpilot page, which stood at 2.7/5 across 288 reviews in September 2026 (38% five-star, 42% one-star): complaints cite bugs and crashes, AI credits running out quickly and difficulty cancelling, while positive reviews praise the text-based approach and ease for beginners. Descript says more than 6 million creators and teams use it, so a few hundred reviews is a small and self-selected sample. Revid publishes the exact credit cost of every feature; read both review pages before deciding.

FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Revid a Descript alternative?
For editing recordings, no: Descript's text-based editor is the stronger tool for podcasts, interviews and screen recordings. For creating short-form videos from scratch (faceless videos, stories, ads, music videos), Revid does what Descript is not built for: it generates the video and publishes it. Many teams use both.
How much does Descript cost?
As of September 2026 descript.com/pricing lists Hobbyist at $24/month ($16 billed annually), Creator at $35/month ($24 annually) and Business at $65/month ($50 annually) per person, plus a free plan with 60 media minutes a month and 100 one-time AI credits. Revid starts at $39/month, or $32/month billed yearly.
Which is better for repurposing a podcast or webinar?
Descript. It records, transcribes, lets you cut by editing text and creates clips from the long version. Revid's YouTube clip maker pulls and captions highlights from a link, which is enough for light repurposing but not a replacement for a transcript editor.
Can Descript generate videos with AI?
Its Creator plan lists "Generate video with the latest AI models" and Business adds custom avatars, all drawing on AI credits. The model names are not stated on its pricing page as of September 2026. In Revid, generation is the core product, using Veo 3, Sora 2, Kling and Seedance per workflow and tier.
What is Descript's Trustpilot score?
2.7/5 across 288 reviews as of September 2026, with 38% five-star and 42% one-star. Common complaints are instability, AI credit consumption and cancellation; common praise is the text-based editing and ease of use. Source: trustpilot.com/review/descript.com.
Do both work with AI agents?
Yes. Descript lists an API and a video editing MCP on its site. Revid's MCP server exposes 14 tools covering rendering, project status, exports, publishing, characters, and credits, and is included on every paid plan alongside an npm CLI.
